OIL 2.2 Gas

Unread postby populuxe » Tue May 20, 2008 10:09 pm

I will be changing my oil for the first time this weekend. I will be using 15w40 per owner's manual. I looked around the Fleet and Farm store and found that 15w40 is favored by the diesel truck/farm tractor types. I picked up some regular Shell Rotella. Is this OK to use in the Renault 2.2 gas engine? I am not trying to experiment or increase horse power--I just want to change the oil.
It has an existing NAPA filter that I can get the number from and pick one up. I got a filter for a Eagle Medallion 2.2fi but didn't realize the filter was remotely mounted. I doubt if the Medallion filter will fit.

I have check archives of the h-bodies and not found the info.

I've searched the other LeSharo list and found that Larry S has used ROTELLA in both his diesel and gas 2.2; also said he used medallion filters. So, both questions were answered. Thanks.

ROTELLA-T 15w40 Meets API service CJ-4,CI-4plus, CH-4,CG-4,CF-4,CF/SM, SL, SJ

The Manual requires API-SF, but that is obsolete and I'm sure it is met by the alphabet soup above.

15/40 is formulated for fleet service, it can take more heat and abuse than normal motor oils, make sure it is not for Diesel as they are easily confused.
