2.2 Fuel Injected engine into a 1984 2.1 TD

Unread postby davidr_scarborough » Tue Apr 16, 2019 3:24 pm

Calling all LeSharo mechanics and creative customizers. The time has finally come to upgrade Pops 1984 2.1 Turbodiesel engine to a 2.2 fuel injected system. Chris Spencer https://www.facebook.com/chris.spencer.75436?fref=gs&__tn__=%2CdK-R-R&eid=ARAncYzTLPrA3_I-VwO7C-nxaHM3AO7UTEPm6_Bu5DGZFwvWVNTeDVNxBvKVGengJsniM-jeLP4J_NWN&dti=332887789311&hc_location=group has agreed to do the work for a handsome fee and the original 2.1 TD engine.
If anyone has done this swap, has theories and knowledgable input about this, please get in touch. I'm trying to set up a basline checklist of parts needed, wiring to be done, generally what you would need to do this swap.
I've been planning this swap and aquiring parts/knowledge for at least 1.5 years, so there are threads on the subject. I'm writing this post in case there are new members with new ideas.
Sometime in May is the initial project start. I will be documenting this engine upgrade and will put the info on the forums when done. Feel free to share this to anyone related to LeSharos and Renaults in general.

Thanks in advance
Dave S

Hi Larry,

I think you attached the incorrect document.(It contains personal info) You should delete it and attach the correct file.

Another place to go for EV parts info, is EVWest
https://evwest.com/catalog/

I think they started with converting Air Cooled VW's, the branched into BMW's and then to about anything. Wide selection of motors, controllers, chargers, and more.
I'm not sure how competitive their prices are, as it's hard to find this stuff. But it's getting easer and cheeper every day .

For example if you kept the LeSharo's transmission and the rest, you could get a physically small motor which would out preform the TD as well as the EFI engines, in any spec.

I'm still thinking a couple Bolts, would be the best way to do it today. but maybe not tommorrow, as this stuff seems to be changing so quickly.

Hey Walt, this just showed up on my computer and I was surprised to hear Larry had lost an eye awhile back.
Couldn't find his email address except through the group
