Re: Western U.S. Rally I bought a Phasar in October. 15k mil

Some one posted a email saying they had a rear window for a 87 phasar. I've
always dreaded that mine might get broken. That would be it for it. The
rear windows in my 83 lesharo were broken three times all by someone on
propose. But they were flat so I just used plexiglass.

What makes the lesharo and phasar such a gem of an RV is that the coach is
all aluminum. Very comparable to a air stream trailer. Many older RVs are
wood framed. And they have a limited life span.

Re: reliability

Unread postby jay m » Mon Jan 25, 2021 6:50 pm

So the anecdotes suggest some things -

1. if cared for and driven gently, either the gasser or the diesel may
do just fine. But maybe it also depends on outside temperatures and how
steep the roads are?

2. Maintenance is key - hoses, belts, tires, and if it sees a lot of
wet then attention to the electrical connectors could be critical.
(maybe there's a regimen of flushing the connectors with WD40 and/or
something protective from time to time?)

3. In hot weather or mountain driving, then cooling may be an issue? Not
necessarily of radiator, but of powertrain? And - is the cooling fan big
enough, or should it get a bigger electric fan?

These are theories only, as the only one I've worked on is still a
conversion in process - though getting pretty close. Yeah it's a Buick -
don't blame me, my buddy started this 6-7 years ago, and it sat for a
long time in-between!

We had a 3.0 Aerostar for quite a few years, and hauled a tent trailer
behind it for vacations. There were a few hills I just took at full
throttle in first/second gear. But in Colorado, coming up on Eisenhower
tunnel, I just locked it in first and eased it up - and it did fine.

I would rather have a post 87 phasar that is repowered with a Buick V6 than
a rialta any day.

One of the items I removed from my parents 91 phasar before it was hauled to the scrap yard was the rear window and gasket. I live in NC if you want to retrieve it. OR. If you want it bad enough be willing to coordinate with a shipping company to package it and pick it up?Renee 919-623-3460. Leave a message please

I pray to god I will never need it. A Plexiglas replacement simply wouldn't
work like it did on my lesharo. Plywood would be the only solution. I hate
a car that you can't see what's behind you.

I thank you for the offer but I just don't have the expendable income
right now. I'm fixing up a 30 foot fiberglass sail boat that was hardly
ever used. It has the coolest little diesel engine ever made. A westerbeke
4 cylinder 15 horse power. Got it for 2500 dollars and just needs a light
refurbish. Can't think of anything cooler for a 64 year old guy to have.

Is your sailboat a 30' Nonsuch?
