Drilling thru the paasenger side roof corner extrusion

Unread postby Desertfirst123 » Sun Apr 17, 2016 2:15 pm

I have had made 4 brackets to support a passenger side awning: 84" long. The bracket is form fitted to the upper curved roof/sidewall support. If i drill a 3/8 hole thru the support at a 45 degree angle for the bracket bolt to hold the bracket in place, nuts and large washers on both sides will i hit any wires that may be in/around the aluminum extrusion?

The plan is to locate the end brackets 1' from each end and locate the middle two remaining at equal distances. The awning will span the approx distance from the middle of the rear window to the middle of the front side window, total 84".

Thanks for the help,

John, If you remove the plastic flex. cover between the sidewall and the ceiling, you will be right with the wires. Most front to rear wiring goes down the left (drivers) side cover.
How are you going to nut the bolts from outside to inside? Remember there is an extrusion up there to hold the ends of the lauan Careful you don't drill through and weaken it.
